What a week! Our first experience of the London Coffee Festival has come to an end & for all of us here at Treves & Hyde it has been one to remember.
The festival provides a unique opportunity for London’s passionate coffee community a platform to taste and research blends of coffee from around the world made by adept baristas with limitless curiosity towards the industry.
A week full of events for the 7,000 coffee lovers descending upon the festival, there was something for everyone, whether you were experienced or amateur in the brewery scene. All the tastings your heart could desire? Check. Demonstrations from world-class baristas and interactive workshops? Of course. Live music, DJs, art exhibitions and coffee-based cocktails? Certainly.
The last 7 days have consisted of showcasing our passion for the art of coffee from all of us in our Aldgate base to James Wise, our Head of Coffee, representing Hyde at the Coffee Masters™ competition – a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary global barista tournament that takes place annually at the festival.
In the quest to be crowned London’s best barista, 20 talented contenders from far and wide made the final cut. James illustrated his skill in the seven key disciplines that competitors were judged on; The Cupping, The Brewing, The Latte Art, The Order, The Signature Drink, The Espresso Blend & The Origin.
After an enthralling few days of competition, James was crowned the winner of Coffee Masters, winning the competition with a score of 82.5 (out of 100). An incredible achievement, considering this is only his second appearance at the competition.
“Creativity, passion, skill, knowledge and personality are the proposed qualities that define a true coffee master. We’d like to think James possesses them all, along with some of the coolest tattoos in the capital.” – It looks like the rest of London agree…
Well done James – from all of us at Treves & Hyde.
